On July 6, 2022, a man traveling northbound on Belcher Avenue in Palm Harbor pulled into the left turn lane at approximately 10:45 am. The vehicle then proceeded to turn left onto Nebraska Avenue. The car was struck by a pickup truck traveling southbound on Belcher Road. The vehicle was hit on the passenger side of the vehicle and then pushed into a sign for a local business. FHP reported that the driver of the pickup truck had a minor personal injury. The man in the turning vehicle was airlifted to Tampa with life-threatening injuries. The accident is currently under investigation.

Florida Is A No-Fault State

Until the facts are determined for this case, it is assumed that the accident will be covered under Florida no-fault insurance. All vehicles in Florida must have personal injury protection (PIP) coverage to operate legally in the state.

Once you notify the insurance company of the accident, it will process under the PIP policy until that policy has reached its limits. At that time, it will be necessary to seek legal representation to cover your losses from the event.

The outcome of the investigation will determine who will be held responsible for the accident. The business that had its sign ruined in this accident will not be included in the losses and will need to file a separate property insurance claim.
