LAKELAND, FL – A woman was killed in a hit-and-run accident near Combee Road and Old Combee Road shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday, Tampa Bay 10 reports. Police are searching for the vehicle that struck the pedestrian, which they believe is a green Ford Expedition from 1997-2004.
The woman has not been identified, but she is believed to have been between 50 and 60 years old. Polk County deputies discovered her in a ditch on the east side of the road and pronounced her dead at the scene.
Authorities believe the SUV dragged the woman for approximately 100 feet following the collision. It then stopped at a nearby Citgo gas station before peeling away westbound.
Authorities believe that SUV will have damage to its front end.
