LAKELAND, FL – Authorities say a woman died after being hit by a truck on a roadway in Polk County Saturday morning, Fox 13 News reports.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 35-year-old Jessica Cunningham, and said she was homeless.
The incident took place on Highway 98 near Duff Road in Lakeland shortly before 2 a.m. Investigators said 22-year-old Tylder Alderman was driving a truck and making a turn from Highway 98 onto Duff Road when he hit Cunningham, who sustained fatal injuries. No one else was injured.
The sheriff’s office said Alderman did not appear to be impaired or driving recklessly, but the investigation is continuing into the cause of the crash. Deputies added that there is little lighting in the area where the incident occurred.
