WINTER HAVEN, FL – A teenager was transported to the hospital after being struck by a car in Polk County Thursday morning.
According to WTSP, the accident happened as the 16-year-old was walking to a bus stop in the area of Avenue G and 22nd Street.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said she was hit by a 18-year-old driver heading to work who did not see her walking across the road. The victim, a Winter Haven High School student, was treated for cuts and what was described as a minor brain bleed.
The driver remained at the scene and came to the girl’s aid, police said. No one else was hurt. Avenue G NW and Lake Howard Drive were shut down for about five hours after the incident.
The driver told police his windshield was fogged up at the time of the crash after he had just left his house.
