SPRING HILL, FL – A deputy with the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office was hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle early Saturday morning. ABC Action News reports the deputy was struck while directing traffic on State Road 52, where emergency crews were responding to a fire.
The fire at an abandoned home broke out at about 5 a.m. in the area of State Road 52 and Land O’Lakes Boulevard. The roadway had been shut down in both directions and the deputy was directing drivers around the affected area when the accident occurred.
The victim was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point and was listed in stable condition. The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene, authorities said.
The incident is now under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
