TAMPA, FL – Officials have released the names of one of the drivers involved in a fatal collision on the Courtney Campbell Causeway that claimed the lives of two people Wednesday.
According to WFLA, that person is a former Polk County Sheriff’s Office named Joshua Roelofs, 33. Roelofs was driving a Nissan GT-R when he struck the rear of a Kia Sorrento occupied by four people. The collision ejected all four occupants of the Kia and caused it to roll over.
First responders were called to the scene of the accident around 3:45 a.m. They transported a 36-year-old woman and a 33-year-old woman to an area hospital in critical condition. They pronounced two 44-year-old men dead at the scene of the accident. It is unclear whether or not Roelofs was injured in the incident.
Authorities believe impairment was a factor in the accident.
