SARASOTA, FL – A man riding a bicycle was struck and killed by a trolley bus in Sarasota County Monday, reports the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

Authorities said the incident happened near the intersection of Midnight Pass Road and Stickney Point Road on Siesta Key at about 1:30 p.m. A report by the Florida Highway Patrol said the bicyclist turned in front of the trolley bus as both vehicles were entering the intersection, resulting in a collision.

The bicycle rider, a 74-year-old man from Sarasota, was declared dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet at the time, investigators said. The victim’s name was not released. The driver of the trolley bus, a 42-year-old woman from Myakka City, was not hurt in the crash.

The incident is under investigation by state troopers.
